Back in the Bedroom – De vuelta en el dormitorio

So, I might have built up expectations a bit too much in regard to the bedroom. As you probably know, the patched areas were painted the wrong color, and I had lost the name of the original paint color. Since I started blogging in August 2012, I have documentation of all the projects we do in the house. That means that I will always know what paint color is where, what we purchase and how much we pay for it. But that does not help us in this case. The bedroom was originally painted in 2010, as it was the first room that I finished.

Como probablemente sabes, las partes remendadas de las paredes se habían pintado un color diferente que el que ya estaba y que yo había perdido el nombre de la pintura original. The solution was not nearly as fun as choosing a new color, though. When I got home from work that that the painter called me to tell me that I had given him the wrong color, I had to do a lot of research. First, I went through all of the gallons of paint that we have stored in the basement. There wasn’t a single one that could have been the bedroom color. Next, I went into my file cabinet and found a folder labeled “projects”. Thank goodness, I used to buy my paint at a place that gave me a receipt that listed the paint color. I am also thankful that I had the foresight to hold on to those receipts. I was able to narrow down the paint colors, but I was not certain that I had the right one because it seemed that I only bought a pint and not a gallon. Back downstairs, I confirmed that I still had that pint, and that it was indeed the color. Moral of the story? Document EVERYTHING!

La solución no fue tan dramática como pintar todo el cuarto en otro color. El día que el pintor me llamó para decirme que le había dado el color equivocado, tuve que hacer una investigación profunda. Empecé en el sótano, sacando todas las latas de galones de pintura. No había ninguna que podría ser la pintura del dormitorio. Después busqué en los archivos. Encontré uno nombrado <<proyectos>> donde había guardado los recibos de la pintura que compré en los primeros años en la casa. Gracias a dios, la tienda donde había comprado la pintura ponía el nombre de la pintura en el recibo. Encontré uno que me parecía que podía ser el color, pero había comprado una pinta en vez de un galón. De vuelta en el sótano, encontré la pinta y confirmé que de verdad era el color. ¿La moraleja del cuento? ¡Siempre documentar TODO!

So, the crisis was avoided, and we just had to wait one more day to have all of the painting finished in the bedroom. I have been waiting for a couple of weeks for a good day to photograph the bedroom, but it still has not happened. You will have to settle for this one. It is hard to distinguish the color, but you can at least tell that everything matches.

You can also see my new rug! I bought it from Bed, Bath and Beyond a couple of weeks ago. It was originally priced at $19, but was marked 50% off. As it was my favorite color and made of all-natural materials, cotton and jute, I could not walk away from it. When I got to the register, it rang up for $6, and I had a 20% off coupon on top of that! Can’t beat it! It does not have the discount, but here is the rug from BB&B and here it is a little cheaper from Amazon.

I am happy to have my bedroom back in order. To be honest, this is more what the bedroom normally looks like, though. Douglas usually has a ton of stuff on this nightstand and his pajama pants on the footboard. I often have cloths piled on the bench.

There are also usually cat toys on the floor because one little trouble maker has learned how to climb up the back of this dresser to pull the toys out of the drawer.

También, típicamente hay juguetes de gatos en el suelo porque un tremendo ha encontrado la manera de subir la cómoda por detrás para sacar los juguetes de la gaveta.
