House Tour (Part II) – Tour de la casa (continuación)

So, last week I showed you the front and first floor of our new house, which is named The Aerie. Today, I am going to show you the second floor… and the back yard if I feel up to it. Let’s see how this post goes. As you probably remember, the stairs are in the front entry.

When you get to the top of the stairs, the first bathroom on the left is the boys’ bathroom. It has a beautiful Hudson River view, at least in the winter. I like everything about this bathroom, except for the wallpaper border. fish anyone?

The next room is the boys’ bedroom. It is the only room other than a bathroom that has the winter river views. We will eventually paint, but only because it has not been done for a while. The boys actually like the pink. In the picture, you can see the light fixture at the top of the staircase. I don’t love it and am looking for another. It might be a while since I am looking for a curb sale (free in the trash).

No me gusta y estoy buscando otra.

The next room is a playroom/guest room. The daybed from the boys’ old room is in here. The closet is a large room under the eaves. You cannot stand up in much of the space, but there is lots of room for furniture and toy storage. We call it the fort, and it is a perfect play area.

From there we will go on to the office. I believe that it was a nursery in its former life, but it will remain an office for us. There is an original stained glass window in the wall that divides this room from the hall. It wasn’t shown in the listing. There is also a nice-sized closet and a door that leads into our bedroom, which you can see in the second picture.

Finally, we have reached our bedroom. Douglas and I are definitely not accustomed to having so much space. It is weird to be able to fit all of our clothes in our bedroom. There are two good-sized closets in this room, and we also have our antique wardrobe on the wall with the dresser in this photo. We also love the large bookcase with space for a small portion of our books. The door to the right leads into our bathroom.

What is one of the best things about this house? The fact that we have our own bathroom. Well, it does not exactly belong to just us. We have to share it with Ponche Crema and Crème de Menthe, but there are no little boys allowed! Someday, I will probably paint a color above the tile, but everything else is just perfect. I have never taken many baths, but the claw foot tub has drawn me in three times already. I think that is as many baths as I took in the entire nine years I lived at the Cape of Dreams.

Now I am out of time, so you are going to have to wait for the backyard tour until next week. Be sure that you subscribe by email so that you don’t miss the next post. The backyard is impressive!

About

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. Jess and Doug and boys,
What a great house. Love the natural woodwork and unique design of the house. Sure you love it too

  2. Wow, you are SO lucky to have that beautiful natural woodwork! Ours is similar, but is natural only in the bedrooms. (Had I known I would live here for so long, I might have stripped the living room! Oh, who am I kidding?) What a gorgeous house. I can see why you fell in love with it at first sight. It’s also very lucky to have you living there because I know you’ll appreciate its charms and not “modernize” it.

    • I can hardly believe that no one ever painted this woodwork. We love it. My only complaint is that it makes picking paint colors for the walls harder.

  3. This house is absolutely stunning. So much charm. And i got really envious when you wrote about the river view !

  4. You are so lucky to have found such a perfect house! I love everything I’ve seen so far! Sorry for the delay in commenting, I’ve been redesigning my site with a new theme and it’s taking me forever to learn how to use it. LOVE LOVE LOVE this house!!! That’s adorable that the boys like the pink. Why not? It’s a happy color! And I remember how adorable your little one looked in his pink polo last year! <3
