Partial New House Tour – Tour parcial de la casa nueva

We are slowly, veeeerrryyy slowly, getting things organized in the house. Douglas and I just had two weeks off, which helped a lot. Unfortunately, we could not do it all, and there is still so much to do. For this first tour, I will share the photos that I took from the listing. Then, as time goes on, I will update you on the progress that we are making in various rooms. Here we go…

I cannot wait to see the yard this lush and green again. I am sick of the cold, grey skies and naked trees. Let’s go spring! It’s time.

Exterior 2018

The only thing this house is missing from my must-have list is a front porch. We do have this little patio out front, and I do love the stone. Unfortunately, the gargoyle did not stay.

The entryway of the house is beautiful, but I would like to change the color. It is just too dark for this space. I love that you can look straight through the house to the back door.

We are also planning to paint the living room eventually, but it is not too bad for now. The green goes well with our furniture, which looks a lot different than theirs. In the first picture, you can see the door to the back porch, and in the second picture, you can see the pool out the windows.

This is the powder room on the first floor. It is located just to the left of the back door that you could see in the picture of the entryway. It has been very convenient having extra bathrooms, especially this one on the first floor. No more fighting over the toilet!

I love the kitchen! Several people have asked if we painted it red, but it had been done by the previous owners. We are actually planning to paint a different color, but only because this room is very dark with the dark paint. In the first picture you can see the door to the dining room, and in the second you can see part of the breakfast nook and the door of the pantry. It is wonderful to have a pantry for all of our cooking accoutrements.

Here we are in the dining room. In both pictures, you can see the door to the kitchen, and in the second one you can also see the door to the entry hall. In the second photo, you can also see the hutch that we bought from the old owners.

The last room on the first floor is a sunroom just off of the dining room. It is Douglas’ favorite room, as well as that of many guests. My dad and his wife came to visit for a week, and they spent 90% of their time in this room. The plants are also loving it! I am actually sitting in here as I write this post.

I am a teacher, traveler, artist, writer, homemaker and a whole lot more. In January 2009, I bought the Cape of Dreams. It was the second house that I had ever owned, but it was the first that I bought by myself. I now live in the house with my husband Douglas, our dog Kahlua, and Crème de Menthe, the cat. Because, what life is complete without a little Kahlua and Cream? I love arts and crafts of all kinds, and I refinish furniture as well. We are slowly redoing our entire house. 1. WOW what a house! (and pool? )
i pray that you dont paint all that gorgeous original woodwork!… so gorgeous

red kitchen ( i would keep but understand about light).

cant wait to see the rest- did you buy the piano?

    • No way are we ever going to paint the woodwork. That was one of the top selling points for us. The seller offered us the piano, but she wanted more than we were willing to pay. We would like to get a piano someday, but it will be an upright.

  2. This is the most adorable story-book house! You really got lucky! Yes, some of the colors could use some lightening-up, but the details are so charming. How big is your property? It looks huge! I can’t wait for more tour. Congratulations on your new home!

    • Thank you! Now you can see why we fell in love with it immediately. We have .4 of an acre. It feels a lot bigger than that though! It is laid out perfectly to take advantage of every square inch.

  3. I’ve been thinking about you recently wondering how it was going but figured you were up to your chin in getting the new house settled. Thanks for the post – I look forward to seeing your progress.

  4. Your house is SO AWESOME!!! I love every thing about it and I know you guys are only going to improve it. Amazing yard. Love the sunroom and the breakfast nook

    • Thank you! We really love it to, although there have been some disappointing surprises. Overall, there are a lot more positives than negatives.
